Mast for a decentrated dipole

I want to install an off-center fed dipole, and I'm thinking of raising the feed point with a mast about three meters above the wall-mounted support so that the feed point exceeds the roof ridge (the highest point of the house).

I have a fairly large-diameter fiberglass mast (from a windsurfer).

Which would work better, a metal mast or the fiberglass one?

Thanks,

Hi Emili, to clear the house's roof ridge with a mast that's sturdy enough, you'll be fine. The thing is, the mast has to support the weight of the dipole and the stresses produced by the dipole's own arms. Also keep in mind that when it's windy, the tension gets high, and when snow is blowing on it (the antenna gets covered with snow or ice, sometimes quite heavily), the weight increases a lot!!!

If you're using coaxial cable for the feed, it doesn't matter. But if you're using open line, consider separating it from the mast if it's metal.

Thanks, Lluis,

Windsurf masts are extremely strong, flexible, and lightweight.

I understand that trying an open line would be an option to consider.
